What is Art?

        Art can be defined differently from person to person, but to me personally it means to create something new and unique.  This new work whatever it may be can almost never be reproduced in the same way as the original. This unique quality allows people to appreciate a piece of work and truly allows it to become art.

    interesting. i like the proposed notions of subjectivity. Very post-positivist of you, Dr. Gow. Dare I ask, what is originality?

    I would go as far as to say that originality is anything that is even made slightly new. Maybe take a song and play half of it forward and the last half backwards. It may not sound great but its probably never been done so it is new, and original, in my opinion of course.
